Lessons I Learned as a Boy

How can we change the lives of others for good? Are we teaching our children the lessons they need to learn to make a difference?

My Conversion

Each of us must have our own conversion even if we grew up learning it, which I did. I didn't really understand all the things that I was taught from a very young age. So when I left for college I stopped going to church. I didn't know if it was true I didn't even know if God was real. I spent about 6 years not really wanting to know. But then something changed, when I was 22 I decided that what I needed to do was find out if what I had been taught in church was real if God was real. So I decided that the best way to do that was to pray and read the Book of Mormon. As I was read over a couple of months I finally came to the end of 2 Nephi. In chapter 32 Verses 10 and 11 it says "and now, my beloved bretheren, and also Jew and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these word and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if you shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are teh words of Christ, and he hath given then unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good. And if they are not the words of Christm judge ye—for Christ will show unto you, with power and great golry, that they are his words, at the last day; and you and I shall stand face to face before his bar; and ye shall know that I have been commanded of him to write these things, not withstanding my weakness."
When I read that I thought to myself how amazing it will be to stand face to face with a Prophet of God. When I had that thought I relized that if he was a Prophet then His writings are true and if his writing are true then this book is true and if this book is then Joseph Smith was a Prophet. It was at that point that everything clicked into place and since that moment I have been working to put my life more in Harmony with the teachings of the Gospel. I know that I still have a long way to go but with the help of the Lord I know that I can do it. Seek for your own conversion Pray to find out for yourself.

Every Member a Missionary

In the most recent First Presidencey message President Eyring said "We need to exercise our faith that the Lord has prepared people around us to be taught. He knows who they are and when they are ready, and He can guide us to them by the power of the Holy Ghost and give us words to invite them to be taught. The promise the Lord gave to a missionary in 1832 is also the promise He gives to us in our charge to find people ready for teaching by the missionaries: “I will send upon him the Comforter, which shall teach him the truth and the way whither he shall go; and inasmuch as he is faithful, I will crown him again with sheaves” (D&C 79:2–3)." This work is too important to let it slip by thinking that tomorrow I will get to it. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland taught: “Much of the time we are just too casual about all of this. This is eternal life. This is the salvation of the children of God. Eternity hangs in the balance. . . . It is the most important path this [person] will ever walk. But if he or she doesn’t know that, at least you do! . . . So take control of this situation.” Are each of us doing all that we can to help those around us to come closer unto Christ? That is the purpose of a missionary and if each of us in a missionary than we each need to fulfill that purpose.

A Foundation on Christ

Our foundation must be Christ because he is our rock. Helaman taught his son to "remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." (Helaman 5:12). As we put our trust in Christ our foundation is strengthened and we are better able to withstand the storms of life. This life is full of times and moments that seem overwhelming or too much to bear however, with the help of Christ all things are possible. I know that a life founded in Christ will lead to happiness. I have seen it time and again in my life that when I am struggling there is no better place to turn then Christ.
